Via Whatsapp, John of PrintFix was able to hypothesize a diagnosis based on my observations, and was right! I'd already guessed the laser toner had dried up (I was wrong) and had bought some more. Prints were extremely faint. John asked if the printer was in a smokey or dusty environment - yes I'm a heavy smoker! He guessed the laser scanning optics (for print not scan) had got smoked up), and offered a trial fix - £55 if it worked, £30 if it didn't. I brought the printer to his office in Basingstoke. Extremely happy with the result!

Having extensively tried myself to fix my (excellent) Dell 2135CN multifunction printer (lots of online help), I drove (by agreement) my unresponsive device to John's workshop, where he eventually resolved what turned out to be an extremely awkward issue related to a printed circuit board. John at PrintFix has helped me on several occasions now (I seem to be the unluckiest person in the world when it comes to printers!) and I couldn't recommend the company highly enough for its friendly and efficient service. If you need advice re. printer sales or repairs, I don't see how you could do better than PrintFix. (And I am in no way related to the company or its staff, by the way!!
